Thanksgiving Travel Delayed as Several Flights are Canceled

For New Yorkers, who were planning to move out of town on Wednesday morning, thanksgiving travel was halted because of several flight cancellations at the local airport.

The authorities revealed that harsh weather conditions were responsible for the cancellations. According to FlightAware (air traffic website) data, 34 flights were cancelled at LaGuardia Airport and 51 flights at EWR or Newark International Airport. Until Wednesday morning, about 35 percent of the cancelled flights at the EWR should have departed while 5 percent of the scheduled morning traffic was called off at LaGuardia Airport.

Prior to 10 am on Wednesday morning, about 10 flights were cancelled out of JFK, 1 out of Islip, and 6 from Westchester. Due to flight cancellations, there’re numerous travelers trapped at LGA airport. Weather forecasters and met departments have predicted heavy rain and looming snowstorms are likely to hit the northeastern region throughout Wednesday as well as on Thursday. Earlier the Emergency Management Office issued warnings that approximately 3-5 inches of wet, heavy snow will cover the Big Apple on Wednesday. This will deteriorate the driving conditions. Airport GM assured the passengers that if they are stranded at the airports, the authorities will assist the travelers in every possible way.

For most parts of northeastern regions, National Weather Service had issued several winter storm warnings. The airport authorities will offer blankets, pillows, cots, and other amenities and make their journey comfortable. The airport authorities urged the travelers to inspect their flight status prior to going to the airport. The travelers should call beforehand to the specific airline and inquire about the flight status.
